Telegram Copier Not Opening Trades: A Troubleshooting Checklist

Last updated 13 Oct 20267 min readBy the MT5 Telegram Copier team

When a Telegram copier reads signals but doesn't open trades, the cause is almost always one of three things: the symbol name doesn't match your broker, the MT5 account can't trade (wrong password, wrong server, or not connected), or a safety setting skipped the signal on purpose. Start with the copier's log, because it usually names the reason in one line.

In MT5 Telegram Copier that log is the live feed in the dashboard. The checklist below runs from the most common cause to the rarest, each with how to check it and how to fix it.

First: what does the live feed say?

Open the dashboard and find the time the signal was posted. You will see one of four situations:

What the feed shows Where to look
Nothing at all for that message Causes 1, 2 and 3
"read but no MT5 account is enabled/connected", or a login error Causes 4 and 5
SIGNAL line, then "skipped on (account)" Causes 6 to 9
SIGNAL line, then "NOT opened" with a broker error Causes 10 to 12

Why is nothing showing in the feed?

1. The channel is switched off, or not covered by your plan

Cause: only channels you switched on are read. One subscription covers one signal channel, and each add-on adds one more. A second channel can't be switched on until you have an add-on for it.

Check: the channel list in the dashboard. The channel you expect should be on.

Fix: switch it on. If the dashboard says your plan covers one channel, either turn the old one off or add a channel + MT5 account for EUR 24.99 a month.

2. Telegram is disconnected

Cause: the copier reads messages through your own Telegram account. If that session was ended, for example with "Terminate all other sessions" in Telegram, nothing gets read.

Check: the Telegram status at the top of the dashboard. In the Telegram app, Settings, Devices should list the copier's session.

Fix: log in again from the dashboard with a new code.

3. The message didn't parse as a signal

Cause: the copier only trades messages it can read as a signal. It skips images without a caption, voice notes, messages with a direction but no levels ("gold buy, wait for update"), and messages where no symbol can be found. It also rejects signals whose stop is on the wrong side of the entry, or a level that is far off the entry (often a typo or a pip value written as a price).

Check: paste the exact message into "test a message". It shows what the parser found and why it stopped, for example "no symbol".

Fix: if the channel never writes the symbol (just "BUY 2350 SL 2340"), set "Symbol when the message has none" for that account. If the admin uses unusual words, add them under custom words. If the message is an image, it can't be copied.

Is the MT5 account able to trade?

4. Wrong password, investor password or wrong server

Cause: the most common MT5 problem. The investor password is read-only, and a server name one character off (Live vs Live2) won't log in at all.

Check: the account status in the dashboard. "Read-only password" means you entered the investor password. "Broker refused the login" usually means a wrong password or server.

Fix: remove the account and add it again with the master (trading) password, and pick the server from the search list, comparing it letter by letter with your broker's email. If you changed the password at your broker, do the same.

5. The account is off, paused, or outside your plan

Cause: an account that is turned off doesn't trade. If your subscription lapsed, accounts are paused. If you added more MT5 accounts than your plan covers, the extra ones show "Not included in your plan". Each account also has a "Signals from" filter, and if it doesn't include this channel, that account ignores it.

Check: the status line under each account, and the "Signals from" setting on its settings page.

Fix: turn the account on, renew, buy an add-on, or tick the channel in "Signals from".

Why was the signal skipped on my account?

6. No stop-loss in the signal

Cause: "Skip signals without a stop-loss" is on by default. Channels that post the entry first and the stop a minute later trip this every time.

Check: the skip reason reads "no stop-loss in the signal (require_sl is on)".

Fix: leave it on for safety, or turn it off and set "Stop-loss to use when the signal has none" in pips. Risk % sizing needs a stop, so in that mode a default stop is required anyway.

7. The signal was too old

Cause: messages older than 60 seconds (by default) are ignored, so a reconnect never turns a backlog into late trades.

Check: the feed says "signal ignored: Ns old".

Fix: normally none. Raise it only if your channel's messages really do arrive late.

8. Trading hours and symbol filters

Cause: a signal outside your copy window or days, or on a symbol your allowed and blocked lists exclude, is skipped.

Check: the skip reason names the filter, such as "not in allowed symbols" or a time-window message. Remember trading hours use the time zone set on the account, Europe/London unless you changed it.

Fix: widen the window, add the symbol to the allowed list, or clear the list.

9. "More signals at once" rules

Cause: if you chose "One signal at a time" or "Only in the same direction", a new signal on a symbol where the copier already has open trades can be skipped. This counts the copier's trades on that account from every channel, not just this one.

Check: the reason starts with "one signal at a time" or "same direction only".

Fix: change the rule to "Copy every signal" if you are fine holding several positions on one symbol.

Why did MT5 reject the order?

10. Symbol not found at your broker

Cause: the channel writes GOLD or NAS100, and your broker lists something the copier couldn't match. The copier tries common aliases and suffix variants on its own (XAUUSD.m, XAUUSDm, USTEC and so on), but unusual names get through.

Check: the error reads "symbol ... not found at this broker".

Fix: look up the exact name under Symbols in MT5's Market Watch. Add a rename such as XAUUSD=GOLD# or set "Add to every symbol". The full method is in the symbol mapping guide.

11. Market closed, or the price ran past the entry

Cause: with no price available, at the weekend or outside an index's session, it reports "no price ... (market closed?)". And if you set "Price already further past the entry zone" to Skip, a signal is skipped when the price is further than your limit beyond the zone. A signal whose price has already passed the stop is also refused.

Check: the error text says which one.

Fix: check the symbol's hours in its Specification window in MT5. For skipped late entries, accept the protection or switch to "Place a pending order".

12. Spread, stops or volume rejected

Cause: the broker refused the order. Common versions:

  • Spread above your "Skip if the spread is wider than" limit.
  • Invalid stops: the stop or target is closer to price than the broker allows, typical around news.
  • Invalid volume or not enough margin: the lot is too large for the free margin, or not a valid step.

A lot below the broker's minimum doesn't fail: the copier raises it to the minimum and says so in the feed. On a small account that can mean more risk than your % setting.

Fix: loosen the spread limit if it is too tight, lower the lot or risk if margin is short, and check the symbol's stop level in its Specification window.

Two things that look like failures but aren't

Only one trade opened instead of three? Your account may be a netting account, where MT5 merges everything on a symbol into one position. The copier then opens one position, because separate legs per take-profit aren't possible there. Hedging accounts get one trade per TP.

AutoTrading button off in your MT5 terminal? It doesn't matter here. That button controls Expert Advisors in a desktop terminal. Our copier trades from the cloud through MetaApi, so your terminal can be closed. More on this in do you need a VPS.

Copier not opening trades FAQ

Why does my copier read the signal but not open a trade?

Usually a symbol mismatch, an MT5 login problem, or a setting that skipped the signal, such as the stop-loss rule or trading hours. The live feed shows the exact reason next to the signal.

Do I need AutoTrading switched on in MT5?

No. AutoTrading matters for Expert Advisors in a desktop terminal. Our copier places trades from our servers, so the button and your terminal play no part.

Can I use the investor password?

No. The investor password is read-only. The dashboard shows "Read-only password" if you used it. Add the account again with the master password.

Why did it copy on demo but not on my live account?

Demo and live accounts at the same broker often use different symbol names and different servers. Check the symbol in Market Watch on the live account and the exact live server name.

The signal had no stop-loss. Can I still copy it?

Yes. Turn off "Skip signals without a stop-loss" and set a default stop in pips, so every trade still gets a stop.
