A copier can handle a signal with TP1 to TP4 in two ways. It can open one trade per take-profit, with the lot split between them, so each trade closes on its own at its TP. Or it can open one trade and close a part of it at each TP, letting the rest ride to the last one. MT5 Telegram Copier does both: "One trade per TP" and "One trade, close part at each TP" on the Take-profits settings. Break-even, late TPs and "TP hit" messages are separate settings on top of that.
Below are both methods with real lot numbers, then the break-even options and what happens when the channel posts its TPs after the entry.
Method 1: one trade per TP
The total lot is split into several trades. Each one gets the signal's stop-loss and its own take-profit, so your broker closes them one by one as price gets there. Because each TP sits on the broker's server as a normal order, nothing has to be watched or sent at the moment TP1 is reached.
How the lot is split is set by "How to split the lot". Write equal, or weights such as 50,30,20, one weight per take-profit you use.
Example: a gold signal with TP1 to TP4, and a total lot of 0.40.
| Split | TP1 trade | TP2 trade | TP3 trade | TP4 trade | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| equal | 0.10 | 0.10 | 0.10 | 0.10 | 0.40 |
| 40,30,20,10 | 0.16 | 0.12 | 0.08 | 0.04 | 0.40 |
| 10,20,30,40 | 0.04 | 0.08 | 0.12 | 0.16 | 0.40 |
With 40,30,20,10 you bank most of the position early. With 10,20,30,40 most of it waits for the far targets. The stop-loss risk is identical in every row, because all four trades share the same stop. The split only changes how much you collect along the way.
"Which take-profits to use" decides how many trades there are. "all" uses every TP in the signal. "first" or "last" opens a single trade. A list like 1,2 opens two trades and ignores TP3 and TP4, and then the weights should have two numbers too.
Method 2: one trade, close part at each TP
Here the copier opens a single 0.40 trade. When price reaches TP1, it closes a part. At TP2 it closes another part, and so on. What is left stays open until the last take-profit.
"Close at each TP" can be set in % of the trade or in lots, and "How much to close" takes up to five values (TP1 to TP5). Left empty, it closes equal parts.
The same 0.40 gold trade with four TPs:
| How much to close | At TP1 | At TP2 | At TP3 | Rides to TP4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| empty (equal parts) | 0.10 | 0.10 | 0.10 | 0.10 |
| 0.16, 0.12, 0.08 lots | 0.16 | 0.12 | 0.08 | 0.04 |
The result on paper matches Method 1. The difference is practical. You see one position in MT5 instead of four, and the partial closes are sent by the copier when the price gets there, while in Method 1 the broker closes each trade on its own TP. Some traders prefer one tidy line in the MT5 app. Others prefer the TPs sitting at the broker. Either is fine; pick one and test it on demo.
Minimum lot and rounding
Most brokers accept 0.01 lot as the smallest trade, and lots move in steps of 0.01. That puts a floor under any split.
- 0.01 in total can't become four trades. There is nothing smaller to split it into.
- 0.04 split equally across four TPs gives 0.01 each, the smallest that works.
- 0.10 with weights 40,30,20,10 gives 0.04, 0.03, 0.02 and 0.01. That works too.
- 0.05 split equally across four TPs would be 0.0125 each, which no broker accepts, so the legs get rounded and will not be exactly equal.
If you trade small, use fewer TPs ("first", or 1,2) or a lot that divides cleanly. The dashboard's "What would open?" table shows the trades your settings would open before any signal arrives, which is the quickest way to catch a split that doesn't fit. The "Never open more than" cap applies to the total of all legs together.
Break-even rules
"Move the stop-loss to entry" has six options:
| Option | When the stop moves to entry |
|---|---|
| At TP1 | When price reaches take-profit 1 (the default) |
| At TP2 | When price reaches take-profit 2 |
| At TP3 | When price reaches take-profit 3 |
| After X pips | Once the trade is that many pips in profit, 20 by default |
| Only when the signal says so | When the channel writes "move SL to BE" or "TP1 hit" |
| Off | Never |
On gold one pip is 0.1, so 20 pips is a 2.0 move.
"Break-even extra pips" locks in a little above the entry on a buy, or below it on a sell. At 0 the stop goes to the exact entry price, which after spread and commission can still end slightly negative. A couple of pips covers that on most gold accounts.
Break-even and the TP methods work together. With one trade per TP and break-even at TP1, the TP1 trade closes in profit and the stops on the TP2, TP3 and TP4 trades move to entry. With partial closes, the part closes at TP1 and the remaining position gets its stop moved.
"TP hit" messages
Many channels post "TP1 hit ✅" or "first target done". With "A 'TP hit' message also moves to break-even" switched on (it is on by default), that message moves the stop too, even if your broker's price hasn't quite touched TP1. Channels quote prices from their own feed, and this keeps you in step with them. If you chose At TP2 or At TP3, a "TP hit" message only moves the stop from that TP on.
If the channel announces targets in its own words, add them under Custom words, in the "Take-profit reached" list. A phrase there counts the same as a "TP1 hit" message, and break-even and partial closes follow your settings.
Partial close messages without a number
"Close half" is easy to read. "Close partial" and "secure some profits" are not, because they don't say how much. For those, the copier uses "'Close partial' without a number closes (%)", which is 50 by default. On a 0.40 trade that closes 0.20. Phrases your channel uses for this, like "pay yourself" or "book some profit", go in the "Close part of the trade" custom words list and close the same percentage.
When the TPs arrive later
Some channels post the entry and stop-loss first, then the TPs a minute later as a reply, a "new TP" message, or a repeat of the whole signal. In one-trade-per-TP mode, "Signal without take-profits yet: open this many trades" handles that.
Set it to 4 and a signal like "SELL 4145/4155 SL 4160" opens four trades at once, with the lot split as you set it. When TP1 to TP4 arrive, each trade gets its own. Set to 1 (the default), it opens a single trade.
When the full signal is re-posted as a new message rather than a reply, the setting "The channel re-posts an open signal as a new message" decides what happens. "Copy it as a new signal" opens more trades. "Update the open trades" puts the stop-loss and TPs onto the trades already open and opens nothing new, as long as the repeat arrives within the window you set (30 minutes by default). Trades are matched by symbol, direction and the same stop-loss or entry zone. A single trade opened without TPs then rides to the last TP and closes a part at each earlier one.

Multiple TP copier FAQ
Which is better, one trade per TP or partial closes?
They give the same result on paper. One trade per TP puts each take-profit on the broker's server as a normal order. Partial closes keep a single position in MT5 and the copier closes the parts as price reaches each TP. Test both on demo and keep the one you find easier to follow.
Why didn't my 0.01 lot split into three trades?
Because 0.01 is the smallest lot most brokers accept. A split needs at least 0.01 per trade, so three TPs need 0.03 or more in total.
Does a "TP1 hit" message move my stop to break-even?
Yes, by default. You can switch that off, and with break-even at TP2 or TP3 it only applies from that TP on.
What does "close partial" do when the channel gives no percentage?
It closes 50% of the trade by default. You can change the percentage in Follow-up messages.
Can I copy only TP1 and TP2 from a four-TP signal?
Yes. Write 1,2 in "Which take-profits to use". TP3 and TP4 are then ignored.
