A Telegram signal copier is safe to use when you know what access you are giving it, the vendor is open about where your Telegram session and broker password go, and you test it on a demo account before live money. The software itself rarely loses you money. Bad signals, wrong lot sizes and wrong symbol names do.
So "is it legit?" has two parts: can you trust the vendor with access to your accounts, and can you trust your settings with your money. This guide covers both, with the checks we would run on any copier, ours included.
What access does a Telegram signal copier need?
Every copier needs two connections, one to Telegram and one to your trading account.
Telegram. To read a VIP channel you joined, a copier has to log in as your Telegram account, with your phone number and the login code Telegram sends you, plus your two-step password if you set one. That creates a session, the same kind Telegram Desktop uses. With a desktop copier it lives on your computer. With a cloud copier it lives on the vendor's server.
MT5. A desktop copier runs inside the MT5 terminal you logged into yourself, so it never asks for your password. A cloud copier logs in to your account from its servers and needs your login number, server and password.
Here is what MT5 Telegram Copier does with each, taken from our privacy policy:
| Access | What we do with it |
|---|---|
| Phone number, login code, two-step password | Passed to Telegram to complete the login; we don't keep the code or the password |
| Telegram session | Stored encrypted on our servers, used only to read the channels and groups you are in |
| Messages | Only new messages in the channels you switched on are read; other chats aren't |
| Posting | The copier doesn't post, join channels or send messages |
| MT5 password | Sent to MetaApi, a cloud MetaTrader service, to open the connection; we don't store it |
| Removing access | Disconnect logs the Telegram session out and deletes it; removing an MT5 account removes it from MetaApi |
You can also end the Telegram session yourself in the Telegram app under Settings, Devices, whatever the copier's dashboard says.
Master password vs investor password
MT5 accounts have two passwords. Which one a copier asks for tells you a lot.
| Password | What it allows | Copier use |
|---|---|---|
| Master (trading) | Open, modify and close trades | Needed by any cloud copier to place orders |
| Investor | View balance, positions and history only | Can't place trades; useless for copying |
The master password lets whoever holds it trade your account. At most brokers it doesn't give access to withdrawals, which go through the broker's separate client area with its own login, but check how your broker handles this. Never give a copier the password to your broker's client area or your email.
If you're nervous about handing over a master password, there are two sensible moves. Start with a demo account, which has its own password and no money behind it. And when you stop using a copier, change the MT5 master password at your broker, which cuts off any connection that still has the old one.
What can go wrong when copying signals
Most losses blamed on "the copier" come from one of these:
| Problem | Example | Setting that limits it |
|---|---|---|
| Bad signals | The channel loses 15 trades in a row | None. Vet the channel first |
| Wrong lot size | Channel writes "Lot 5", copier opens 5 lots | Max-lot cap (ours defaults to 1.0) |
| Too much risk | 3% risk per trade on a channel that posts six signals a day | Lower risk %, "One signal at a time" |
| Wrong symbol | Channel says GOLD, broker uses XAUUSD.m | Symbol renames and automatic name detection |
| No stop-loss | "XAUUSD BUY NOW" with SL "coming soon" | Skip signals without a stop-loss (on by default) |
| Late entry | Old message copied after a reconnect | Ignore signals older than 60 seconds |
| Misread follow-up | "Close half" ignored, or read as close all | Test a message, custom words |
Take a normal gold signal:
XAUUSD BUY 2385-2380
SL 2374
TP 2390
TP 2400
On risk mode at 1% of a EUR 5000 account, the copier sizes the trade so a stop at 2374 costs about EUR 50. On a fixed lot of 0.50 with no cap, the same 11-point stop on gold costs far more, and nobody notices until the first loss. The copier did exactly what it was told. The risk settings guide has a starting template.
Then there's the channel. A copier copies losing trades as faithfully as winning ones, only faster. Our checklist for whether a Telegram signal channel is reliable is worth reading before you point any copier at real money.
Red flags in copier vendors
Some warning signs we would take seriously:
- Profit claims. A copier is software. A vendor promising returns or a win rate is selling something else.
- No stated company or contact. Look for terms, a privacy policy and a support address that replies.
- Vague answers about passwords. "Where does my MT5 password go?" should get a direct answer.
- Asking for the wrong password. Your email password or the broker's client-area login has no place in a copier.
- Bot setups for VIP channels. If it can only read a channel through a bot the admin must add, it won't read your paid channel.
- No way out. You should be able to cancel without emailing anyone and disconnect Telegram yourself.
- Lifetime deals at 80% off "today only". Copiers need upkeep because Telegram and MetaTrader keep changing.
Is it legit? Reading Trustpilot and reviews
Reviews on Trustpilot, Reddit and the MQL5 Market are useful for patterns: repeated complaints about refunds, missed trades or silent support. Single angry reviews often come from someone whose PC went to sleep. A burst of five-star reviews in one week, written alike, says more about marketing than the product. We go through this in Telegram signal copier reviews.
Reviews can't tell you how a copier reads your channel on your broker. Only a demo test can.
How to test a copier safely on demo
- Open a demo MT5 account at the broker you plan to use live, so symbol names match.
- Connect the copier to the demo account only.
- Paste five or ten real messages from the channel into the copier's test tool, if it has one. Ours is called "test a message" and shows what would be traded without placing anything.
- Start with a fixed 0.01 lot, a low max-lot cap and "skip signals without a stop-loss" on.
- Run it for a week, ideally through the channel's busiest hours.
- Each day, compare the channel with your MT5 history: symbol, direction, stop, take-profits, and what happened after "close half" or "SL to entry".
- Check every skipped signal in the activity feed. Each skip should have a reason that makes sense.
Only when that week matches the channel should you add a live account, at lower risk than you think you need.
How to cancel and switch off
Know the exit before you start. With MT5 Telegram Copier:
- Switch a channel off to stop copying it.
- Remove the MT5 account to stop all trading on it; it's removed from MetaApi too.
- Press Disconnect to log out and delete the Telegram session.
- Cancel the membership in your Whop account. Copying runs to the end of the paid month, then stops.
Open trades stay at your broker with their stop-loss and take-profit, and there's a close-all button in the dashboard if you want to be flat now. If the copier can't connect your broker or Telegram account, our refund policy covers the first payment within 14 days. The plan is EUR 24.99 a month for one Telegram account, one channel and one MT5 account, and EUR 24.99 a month for each extra channel plus MT5 account.
A copier is software, not trading advice. Trading leveraged products is risky and you can lose all the money in your account.
Is a Telegram signal copier safe? FAQ
Can a copier withdraw money from my broker account?
A cloud copier uses your MT5 master password, which lets it trade. At most brokers, withdrawals go through a separate client area with a different login, which a copier should never ask for. Check how your broker handles it.
Can I use my investor password?
No. The investor password is read-only, so trades placed with it are refused. Copying needs the master password.
Will my Telegram account get banned for using a copier?
A copier that only reads messages behaves like another logged-in device. Ours doesn't post, join channels or send messages. Accounts are usually limited for spam, which a reading-only copier doesn't do.
Does MT5 Telegram Copier store my MT5 password?
No. It goes to MetaApi to open the connection to your broker, and we don't store it. Removing the account in the dashboard removes it from MetaApi.
What happens to open trades if I cancel?
They stay open at your broker with their stop-loss and take-profit. Copying stops at the end of the month you paid for.
Is a signal copier legit or a scam?
The software can be legitimate and still lose money if the channel's signals are bad. Judge the vendor on transparency and exit terms, and the channel on a demo test.
