How to Copy Signals From a Private Telegram Channel to MT5

Last updated 13 Oct 20266 min readBy the MT5 Telegram Copier team

You can copy signals from a private Telegram channel to MT5 without being an admin, as long as the copier reads Telegram as your own account instead of through a bot. Copiers built on the Telegram Bot API need their bot added as an administrator, which no VIP provider will do for a member. A copier that signs in as you (a user session, like Telegram Desktop) sees whatever you see, so any channel or group you've joined works, and the provider doesn't have to add or approve anything.

Before you set it up, read your provider's rules. Some VIP channels forbid automated copying of their signals, and breaking that can cost you the membership.

Why bot copiers need admin rights

Telegram has two kinds of programs. Bots are created through BotFather and talk to the Bot API. Users, real accounts with phone numbers, run Telegram apps.

A bot sees a channel's posts only if a channel admin adds it as an administrator. That's a Telegram rule, not a copier's choice. It's fine if you run the channel yourself: add your bot, done. In someone else's paid channel you are a member, not an admin, and you can't add anything.

This catches people who buy an EA from the MQL5 Market or a cheap tool built on a bot. It installs fine, the bot exists, and nothing ever arrives. Before buying any copier, ask one question: does it read channels through a bot, or through my account?

How a user-session copier reads as you

A user-session copier signs in to Telegram the way Telegram Desktop does on a new computer. With our copier, you enter your phone number on our website, Telegram sends you a login code, and you type it in. That creates a session on our servers that receives the same messages your phone does.

From then on, any channel or group you're a member of can be copied, private VIP channels included. In the dashboard, "Signals from" on each MT5 account picks which of those channels it copies. The full steps are in the setup guide.

This is also why it needs no VPS or Windows app. The session and the copier run on our servers around the clock, and the MT5 side connects through MetaApi, a cloud MetaTrader API.

What the channel owner can and can't see

This is usually the first worry, so here it is plainly.

The provider sees you as a member, the same as before. Telegram doesn't show channel owners which devices or sessions their members use, so a member reading from a phone looks exactly like a member reading from a desktop session. There's no "copier" badge next to your name, and the owner has nothing to approve.

What they can see is the ordinary stuff: that your account is in the channel, and whatever you post or react with if the chat allows it. A copier that only reads doesn't post anything.

That privacy is a reason to be honest with yourself about the rules. If the provider's terms ban automated copying, the fact that they can't see it doesn't make it allowed. Check the terms or ask them.

Protected content and forwarding disabled

Many VIP channels turn on "Restrict saving content", which blocks forwarding, copying text and saving media in the Telegram apps. People assume this stops copiers. It doesn't stop a user session from reading the messages, because reading is all a copier does.

A user session receives the text of each message just as your phone displays it. The copier parses that text into a trade on your MT5 account. Nothing is forwarded to another chat and nothing is re-posted anywhere. The restriction is aimed at members redistributing the signals, and copying them to your own trading account isn't redistribution. Your provider might still see it differently, so again, read their rules.

One limit: a copier reads text. A signal posted only as an image with no text in the message can't be parsed.

Groups, channels and topics

Telegram has three places where signals show up, and they behave a little differently.

A channel is one-way. Only admins post, so everything that arrives is from the provider. This is the easiest case for a copier.

A group lets members write. If the provider posts signals in a group where members chat, the copier also reads members' messages, and one that looks like a trade ("buy gold 4150 sl 4140?") could be taken as a signal. Two settings help. "Skip signals without a stop-loss" drops most loose chatter. "Never trade messages with" under Custom words lets you list phrases to ignore completely.

A group with topics (forum style) is still one group to Telegram, with threads inside it. If you copy a topic group, expect the copier to see messages from all its topics, and use the same filters. If only one topic matters to you, ask support before you subscribe.

What happens if you're removed from the channel

When your membership ends or the provider removes you, your Telegram account stops receiving that channel's messages, and so does the copier. No new signals are copied from it.

Trades that are already open stay open at your broker, with their stop-loss and take-profit, because those orders sit on the broker's server. What you lose is the channel's follow-ups: "close now", "move SL to BE" and so on. If you rely on "Only when the signal says so" for break-even, those trades are on their own. Check open positions in MT5 the day your membership ends and manage them by hand if needed.

If you rejoin later, the copier picks the channel up again since it reads as you.

Session safety: Devices and disconnecting

Giving any service a Telegram session is a real decision. It can read the chats your account can read. So know how to see it and how to end it.

Open Telegram, then Settings, then Devices. Every active session is listed there, ours included, with when it was last active. Tap it and choose Terminate session, and it's gone at once. No password change needed, and nothing else on your account is touched.

A few habits worth keeping:

  • Turn on Two-Step Verification in Telegram's Privacy and Security settings, so a login code alone isn't enough to sign in to your account.
  • Look at Devices now and then and end anything you don't recognise.
  • Never type a Telegram login code into a site you didn't open yourself, and never send one to anyone in chat.

On the MT5 side, your password is passed to MetaApi to connect your account and isn't stored by us. If you stop using the copier, change your MT5 password at your broker and the connection ends. For the money side, see pricing: EUR 24.99 a month covers one Telegram account, one channel and one MT5 account, and each add-on at EUR 24.99 adds one more channel and one more MT5 account.

Before you trust a private channel with real money, it's worth checking its track record. Our guide on how to vet a Telegram signal channel covers what to look for. And test the whole setup on a demo account first, since copying signals can lose money.

Private Telegram channel copier FAQ

Do I need to be an admin of the channel to copy it?

Not with a copier that uses your own Telegram account. You only need to be a member. Copiers that work through a Telegram bot do need admin rights, which you won't get in a VIP channel run by someone else.

Will the signal provider know I'm using a copier?

Telegram doesn't show channel owners which devices or sessions their members use. They see you as a member like any other. Some providers still forbid automated copying in their rules, so check before you start.

Can I copy a channel that has forwarding disabled?

Yes. "Restrict saving content" blocks forwarding and saving in the apps, but a user session still receives the message text, and copying reads that text to place a trade on your own account. Images without text can't be parsed.

What happens to my trades if I'm removed from the VIP channel?

Open trades stay at your broker with their stop-loss and take-profit. The copier stops receiving new signals and follow-up messages from that channel, so manage any open positions yourself.

How do I disconnect the copier from my Telegram account?

Go to Telegram Settings, then Devices, find the session and terminate it. It ends immediately and doesn't affect anything else on your account.
